A Matter of Interest... The Biretta

This is a square hat, usually with three or four ridges worn by Roman Catholic Clergy.

It's usually black for priests (and deacons), black with a purple tuft for Monsignors, Purple for Bishops and Red for Cardinals.

Nice. Although I don't think I've ever seen any modern clergy wearing the biretta; not in this country anyway.

Actually, some do.

But unfortunately it's restricted to parishes where they say the Traditional Latin Mass
